As in the case of greetings and announcements, letters expressing gratitude or plainly 'thank you' letters are an essential part of business routine. They are absolutely essential to maintaining good relationships, and their neglect can seriously impair business interests.
We have already seen that the words 'thanks' or better still, `thank you' at the outset can make a world of difference in the complexion of even a formal letter. Thanks can be added anywhere; in the begining, in the middle of the letter or at the end; and it is better to give too many thanks than too few.
No special skill is needed to write a plain 'thank you' letter. What matters is the intensity of the gratitude that needs to be conveyed. The writer has to use appropriate words to suit different situations. Words used to express thanks for receiving an enquiry is certainly not enough when it comes to expressing thanks for receiving some great assistance without consideration of any kind. The following models may serve as a guideline.
